My first day of tutoring was last Friday. Only one of my students showed up on that evening. And we could only meet for half an hour as he had to leave for a movie that was showing at school there after.
We spent about half of the time introducing ourselves. Then we began the review of his math homework. The homework was on finding areas of various hybrid figures made by meshing together either rectangles, triangles or parallelograms of different shapes and sizes. And I never thought the day would ever come when I would say this - but thank God for the GMAT math section. I had all the formula's at my fingertips.
My understanding is that generally, most tutors use this time to do the homework together with students. I however plan on using this time to review the area's where the students struggled with over all the homeworks that they had done that week. In that case I would revisit the concepts underlying those areas to try and reinforce their knowledge. I will keep this blog updated on the various strategies I plan on using and which ones I find to be successful and which were not.
This coming weekend is Thanksgiving so I'll continue the tutoring sessions the week after.
